Our Story

We were fortunate to learn how to sail in one of the world's most challenging and diverse places, the San Francisco Bay. We would explore different parts of the world each year by chartering sailboats during our vacations, but this was not enough to satisfy our sailing passion. We put ourselves on a very aggressive plan to save our pennies and start our search for Sea Bee. The other hobby we share is beekeeping - hence our boat name.

Our plans and the kind of boat we wanted evolved along the way. Our original plan was to sail from California to Mexico, cross the Pacific Ocean, and cruise throughout the South Pacific Islands. Later we switched gears and considered buying a boat on the East Coast and sailing down to the Caribbean. Eventually, we landed on our final plan, to buy a boat in the Mediterranean, explore the Med for a couple of years, and cross the Atlantic into the Caribbean.

As our sail plan developed, so did the type of sailboat we wanted to meet our sailing needs. We went from wanting a heavy displacement, full keel, bluewater sailboat to discovering the benefits of a modern, well-engineered production boat. After doing extensive research we discovered a make we had never heard of before - Elan yachts. We connected with many Elan owners to discuss their experiences and discovered their love and appreciation of the boat. We discovered this would be a perfect sailboat for us. After many trips to Europe and looking at dozens of Elan boats in the Med, Kivanc found our dream boat in Croatia in January 2019 – a beautiful 2-cabin 2016 Elan Impression 45.

Due to Covid we spent 2020 apart from our newly purchased boat and had to put our sailing plans on hold. Once travel restrictions were lifted and we were fully vaccinated we finally left California to start our long-awaited sailing adventure. We spent 2021 sailing in Croatia extensively.  It was a good opportunity to get back into sailing and familiar with our new boat. By the end of the year, we were ready to move on, see new lands and do some longer passage-making. This year in 2022 we sailed to Montenegro, throughout Greece, and are making our way over to Turkey.
